I had no doubts about the FMUSP program, one of the few in anesthesiology in Brazil. I received full support throughout the regulatory process for approval of the research project, which is a clinical, randomized and translational study. With the help of my advisor, we were able to get funding from FAPESP, which was fundamental for the research laboratory execution. I gained access to the Medical Research Laboratories (LIMs) complex, where I do the translational part. The program is complete and encourages collaboration inside and outside USP. We got international partnerships with researchers from Germany, Canada and Switzerland, besides the inclusion of two medicine students for scientific initiation. As a PhD student and spokesperson, I recommend the Postgraduate Program in Anesthesiology, Surgical Sciences and Perioperative Medicine at FMUSP." Vinicius Quintão Current PhD Candidate How can I join? Infrastructure and financing LABORATORIES The Postgraduate Program in Anesthesiology, Surgical Sciences and Perioperative Medicine at FMUSP has its own laboratories that comprise the set of Medical Research Laboratories (LIMs). LMIs are research units at Hospital das Clínicas linked to the Departments and Disciplines of FMUSP ( click here for more details ). The objectives of the laboratories are the development of scientific research (clinical, experimental in animals and basic); the standardization of new diagnostic techniques and methods with the possibility of validating use in patients; and the training of researchers in basic and applied research. LIMs are also spaces for research, teaching and training for undergraduate and graduate students with curricula directly or indirectly related to health sciences, with the possibility of incorporating high school and technical education students. The infrastructure of laboratories and specific locations for the care of surgical patients allows ample possibility for clinical, experimental and animal research and basic research. Continuous investments are made to improve infrastructure. In addition to institutional resources, the Faculty constantly seeks funding from official funding agencies (mainly FAPESP, CNPq and CAPES). In addition, the CEDAR Study Center (Anesthesiology and Reanimation Study Center, linked to the Discipline of Anesthesiology) and CIA (Academic Information Center, linked to the Discipline of General Surgery and Trauma) collaborated to raise funds. The description of each laboratory unit is on the corresponding page: Anesthesiology Laboratory (LIM / 08) Anatomy and Vascular Surgery Laboratory (LIM / 02) Microsurgery and Plastic Surgery Laboratory (LIM / 04) Surgical Pathophysiology Laboratory (LIM / 62) Research Laboratory in Experimental Surgery (LIM / 26) Head and Neck Surgery Laboratory (LIM / 28) Biophysical Laboratory (linked to LIM / 08) The interdisciplinary nature of the Program favors partnerships and the shared use of Laboratories from other institutional areas. The Program also develops projects in partnership in the experimental laboratory structures of the Liver Transplantation and Surgery Laboratory (LIM / 37) , the Cancer Metabolism Laboratory of the USP Biological Sciences Institute and the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences from USP . In order to stimulate the research and innovation activities of the FMUSP / HC System, the Premium Network offers institutional equipment for shared use. Through it, it was possible to obtain joint resources with the Rehabilitation Sciences Laboratory (LIM / 34) of the Department of Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy through the CAPES Pro-Equipment proposal (Edit. 11/2014). Regarding the use of experimental animals, mice, rats, hamsters and rabbits are provided by the vivarium of the Medical School of the University of São Paulo, with structure and resources recommended by the current legislation. For the experiments that use pigs, which by legislation of the city of São Paulo cannot be raised in the urban environment, the animals are supplied by farms previously registered by the laboratories and delivered to the vivarium on the day before the experiment, in compliance with all the guidelines for the experimental use of animals. SURGICAL CENTERS Besides the own infrastructure, the postgraduate students can develop activities in the surgical centers of the HC-FMUSP complex: Central Institute Heart Institute Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology institute of Children Institute of Psychiatry Cancer Institute Institute of Radiology University hospital OTHER INFRASTRUCTURES AND FUNDING INFORMATION Clinical Research Center Research funding Ethics Committees Information technology Technical and administrative support Library
